Year of the Black Rainbow

Year of the black rainbow is a masterpiece. Some people don't like it and others love it. I fall in the middle of the two. The album starts with "One" which is an obscure orchestra and computer piece. It has a feeling of "in the beginning before man or machine" type of vibe. This would make sense because even though this is the fifth album in the discography, it is the prequel of the story, The second song on the album is "The Broken." It is, in my opinion, one of the best songs off the album. The reason I say that is because of the chorus of the song; "Divided we must, pray for the broken. No one can fix us! We are, we'll always be the wrong." I really like this line because at times I feel broken and I feel like other people must have that feeling from time to time as well. We are in charge of our own happiness and nobody else can fix us.

The next song I want to talk about is "Here We Are Juggernaut." This song speaks words of wisdom year after year. This song gets back to love and how it isn't going well in this song. He says "Oh this is not your place, no this is not your playground, it's my heart!" In my own life I have experienced this a few times. The "I love you, I hate you" that we hear couples say at different times. Another really powerful lyric from this song is "Cause your teeth just won't stop. Chewing out my heart!" I think most of us can think of some relationship we have had that relates to this.

Another song on this album is "Made Out of Nothing (All That I Am)". The reason I like this song is for the "growing up" expressed in it. One of the verses is "Someone please come, shelter me from all that I am and never again, will I believe the same old story." For me I think that he is saying that his old self is left behind. The new self is here and its time for a change. I like this idea because we as people should always be growing and changing. We are a unfinished product and should never be thought of as finished or complete.

The last song I want to talk about is "Pearl of the Stars" I would have to say this is my favorite song off the record. For me, this song is about two things; the love you give a person and what they go through that you cant help them with. You know they are leaving in one way or another, but you cant do anything. You would follow them to the stars if you could, but you cant. Its a happy and sad song because the love is there, but they soon wont be.
