The Afterman: Descension

This album opens up with a ukulele playing and some space sounds, then adding in some drums. This song is called "Pretelethal" its a very interesting intro to the album because the chorus of the song is "who will repair this broken heart?". Due to this being the second part to the double album it kinda starts in the middle of the story where the other album left off. The song is simple lyrically but complex in the instrumentals and feeling of the song.

The next song I want to talk about is "Number City". This is one of the coolest tracks they have made to date. The story of this song is after a car crash that has left them on the side of the road waiting for the paramedics. That is where the "Honey, release my heart" and counting of the heartbeats one through nine play into the song. They also bring a trumpet and saxophone into their music for the first time with this song.

The third song I want to talk about is "Gravity's Union". The story of this song is the car wreck and how he feels after it. He feels that he should have been the one who died. The verse "But you let the wrong one in", explains this in the song. He feels guilty for his wife's death. Even though this is all just a worry in his head every time he gets behind the wheel, it shows a powerful message. I think one of the best lines from this song is "Caged, locked in perpetual motion, carving our wounds wide open." It is talking about the car and how it is our death capsule that can tear through our flesh.

The fourth song I am going to talk about is "Iron Fist". This song is about when he gets back home and the loss he feels for her not being next to him. I relate this song to the anger that we all have at some point in our life. We do something brash, and no matter if its a big thing or a small thing we have some type of emotion to it later on when we calm down. We hate on our self for what we have done and all we want to do is go back and fix it. I think the verse "God damn this cursed iron fist, when I lose control, give me the strength I know, and please believe me", says a good amount of what the song is trying to say.

The last song on the album is "2's My Favorite 1". This is a love song about how he feels on the inside. He wants to be back with his love and is willing to do whatever it takes to be with her. He knows that he may not make it back to her and that he might lose the fight against his unforseable future. But no matter the cost he wants to see her again, even if that means he must die.
