The Afterman: Ascension

Afterman ascension is the first album that is outside off the original "Amory wars" story. It is still in the same universe as that story but is about different characters. This story is two parts and this album is part one. The first song on the record is "The Hollow". It is the message from the all mother to Sirius before the trek that he is about to make. He is scared as to what is about to happen in the unknown. He asks "Will you stay with me?" She replies "I will be there every step of the way."
The next song I want to talk about is "The Afterman". This is the title track of the album and is a really amazing track. It asks the simple and complex question of "what is after life?" The song repeats the verse "If he's not here, then where?" followed by the lyric "I wouldn't change a thing about you, I love you dearly, my friend." For me this song shows that we love our friends for who they are in the world and no matter what they did. When their time comes we would not change a single thing about them. The topic of this song is sad, but the tone of the song and how it is played makes it happy.
The third song I want to talk about is "Goodnight, Fair Lady", an upbeat song about roofies. So how this song came about was that Claudio (the writer) was sitting in a bar and noticed a man sitting by himself. Somehow in his mind he started coming up with this idea that the man was going to find a girl at the bar and take her home. But first he was going to have a musical number with everyone dancing. This idea was only in his head and had no physical truth to it. This song uses the verse "I'm the snake waiting for you dear, and eventually you'll come to me, I know you will.". Along with "kindness and my smarts I replaced your pleasure, with a friend at the bottom." I think these two lyrics are done so well, it tells us so much, in so few words.
The last song I want to talk about is "Key Entity Extraction III: Vic the Butcher". This song is about the secrets and judgement people make about us behind our backs. He uses the lyrics "I listened to them chuckle as they eat. Their judgment hiding behind eyes and dirty teeth." Plus the chorus of the song is "hang your secrets, hang'em up, hang'em up now." This song expresses the judgment of how someone in the lime light feels, when they think they are being judged.
